took me maybe 20 minutes to do everything. but just talk to their customer service support and they'll let you know exactly what you'll need for what you want to do. i completely replaced the old hard drive, but you can add a ssd as a second drive if you'd like. they sent me a new cable and i'm now good to go. it didn't work and had to troubleshoot with them on what the problem was. only problem i had was with a cable they sent me. They have videos walking you through everything. I did not know you could upgrade it? If so, did you do it yourself? Did you added a second hard drive or removed the old one? I apologize if probably I should post this somewhere else. Hi, I believe we have a similarly spec Imac 27" bought in Sept 2011. it cost me about $850 instead of $4000 for a new machine.

depending on what you currently have (not listed) it might be worth looking into just upgrading your current machine. it was much cheaper to do that then to get a whole new machine. i just upgraded my 2011 imac with a 1tb ssd and 32gb ram and it's blazing fast now. so the better your machine is now, the longer it'll keep up in the future. each new os uses more and more resources. but with macs these days, the more ram the better. the flash or ssd will make a bigger difference than the ram will. it's money better spent on a ssd or flash storage. and yeah, the fusion drive to me is useless.

You'll be good with 8 but better to have 16.
